Five creative things to try with AI
Letter Zero.81
Dear friend,
I have been experimenting with AI art and I'm going to share some of what I've learned so far. If you are an artist, the threat of AI is scary. It scares me, too. But I have a rule that I strive to live by. I try not to criticize something until I truly understand it. So I am using the technology and, well, it's not as scary as I originally thought. Just as with any amazing tool, it doesn't replace creativity. You have to bring that with you. That should be a relief to those of us who survive off our creative abilities.
Here are five exercises I have been using to flex my creativity muscle as I teach myself how to collaborate with AI...
Idea 1: Imagine books as movies
Unhappy with how your favorite book was adapted for the big screen? Correct the problem by imagining the version you’d make. If I could make 1984 into a film it might look like this:
Idea 2: Visualize song lyrics
Take your favorite song and use the lyrics as a prompt for imagining new art.
Idea 3: Remix your own art
Start with your original art and use AI to help you re-imagine it. In the example below, I used a dragonfly and butterfly from my “Infestation” project and tweaked the prompt until it gave me something I liked.
Idea 4: Imaginary photo shoots
If you could do a photo shoot with anyone, who would you pick? What camera would you use? What location?
Idea 5: Indulge odd thoughts
Take note of the weird places your mind goes to... What if Dieter Rams designed a VR headset? Film noir Batman? Han Solo in the style of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons? Anatomical drawing of a mechanical mind? The AI doesn’t judge your wildest suggestions.
And here's a secret. You don't need AI to do any of these exercises. Stay creative.
Your friend,
Ade
