People thinking AI art will transform non-creative people into artists will be surprised.
Letter Zero.83
Dear friend,
I continue to experiment with AI art. In some ways it is no different than any of the technologies that have transformed the process of art making. People who think that AI will transform non-creatives into artists instantly will be surprised. I've been pondering the following 5 mental traps that are stifling people trying to get started with AI art.
1. Don’t expect it to be easy.
All tools worth mastering have a learning curve. For every amazing image there might be hundreds of attempts that never get seen.
2. Don’t hide the fact that you used AI.
Don’t be embarrassed. Don’t apologize. People might give credit to the tool instead of you. So be it.
3. No get-rich-quick schemes.
That’s everyone’s first thought. You can do better. What unique, creative way can you use this technology to make it yours?
4. The tool is not a replacement for creative thought.
While everyone else is creating cat pic prompts, what is trapped in your imagination that nobody else would ever think of?
5: Don’t procrastinate.
The best time to learn new tools was yesterday. The second best time is today.
And here's a secret. These mental traps don't just stifle people trying to master AI tools. They're universal challenges. Stay creative.
Your friend,
Ade
P.S. If you are curious the prompts I used to create these images, they are available as the descriptions on this Twitter thread.
