New Video: A Prayer to the Muse
Letter Zero.84
Dear friend,
Isaac Asimov knew how hard it can be to overcome creative block. He said that, “to be creative in public is particularly bad.” Why? Because “the world in general disapproves of creativity.”
I just posted a new video showcasing photos from everyone who participated in my Infestation project. Accompanying the video (in addition to the Hans Zimmer soundtrack) is a recitation of a prayer to the muse.
Why a prayer?
At the heart of every creative act is a rejection of the normal, a refusal to accept things as they are, a determination to push the earth off its axis of tradition. Whether it is your day job, a side project, or just the struggle to find the beauty hiding in your current situation, creativity takes courage. It might seem silly, or uncomfortably pseudo-spiritual, but a prayer to the muse is something that has helped me as I struggle to maintain creative energy. Feel free to adapt the prayer to suit whatever belief system you hold and next time you feel creatively stalled maybe give it a try. Stay creative.
Your friend,
Ade
P.S. If you like the Asimov quote above, here is the story behind where it came from. Spoiler: he was frustrated after working with the government who wanted to incorporate his sci-fi ideas into their defense program. Crazy but true.
