So rad you got to do that. I hear you about sensory overload and the flow state antidote. That's what I used to love about riding my bike in the city. It would put me in a flow state where I could just go with the sensory bombardment, but walking was another story. Congrats on such a cool opportunity.
A wonderful tale! My first time in NYC was in the 80s. I was living in rural VT at the time, a country mouse. I wandered the streets on foot, open-mouthed with wonder. Your word, "texture," is exactly right and describes my experience.
I really loved this piece because you not only described your materials and process but you also explored NYC as the canvas, the hazards involved with public art making and your personal struggles. I will be looking for your art on the surfaces of NYC, around the Brooklyn Film Festival, on VICE and in the digital realm.
Very cool! Funny about the tripod... there are plenty of bands that play in the subway stations taking up way more room than the tripods I think. Looks like you had fun! I enjoyed living in NYC when I was younger, but glad I'm not anymore :)
Super cool project. I also find crowds really hard, but it tends to make photographing in the city more challenging for me. Montreal also has some really beautiful graffiti and murals along with multitudes of lovely textures. Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to seeing the final release!
